I’ve commented before on Linus having some weird ideas, for example in the Linux, Linus, and Software Engineering item above. In this post to linux-kernel Linus totally outdid himself. Not only is he totally, utterly wrong on the technical points, but his obnoxiously sarcastic tone demonstrates how poor he is at handling disagreement or criticism even when he’s on shaky ground. The comments about scalability being a meaningless concept are particularly noxious. I’ve composed a reply in Usenet/slashdot style, but it’s just not worth the flame war it would cause if posted publicly. If you’re here, though, you’re a lot more likely than the average kernel-traffic reader to appreciate it. I encourage you to do so, and ask “Is this the kind of person we want running and representing our community project?”
