This is probably the most “out there” post so far. I am most emphatically not a religious person myself, and I find a lot of religious people indredibly annoying. On the other hand, I have a very deep respect for other religious people, especially those who devote their whole lives – think about that – to service in the name of religion. Wow. So, even though the con artists running the Church of Scientology (CoS) are firmly in the “annoying” category, I felt I had to speak up when some participants in this incredibly long thread went beyond slamming CoS and started ripping religion in general. The relevant part of the discussion went like this:
- SubtleNuance (what a misnomer) posted the original rant.
- My first response addressed the issue of treating all faith and all people with faith as though they were equal.
- Malcontent jumped in, criticizing religious people who “pick and choose” what to believe in.
- My second response was centered on the idea that religious faith is not an all-or-nothing thing, and that choice is a good thing.
